The film selection for the Library of Congress this year features 25 films. Those selected include Malcolm X, directed by Spike Lee starring Denzel Washington. Cry of Jazz, which is 35-minute analysis of the origins of jazz. Among the likes of Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, Saturday Night Fever, and Airplane which will also follow into the registry this year. The purpose of the registry, isn’t to identify the best movies ever made, but to preserve films with artistic, cultural or historical significance. This registry was started back in 1989. Some other names that you may know in this years selection The Pink Panther, All The Presidents Men, and The Exorcist.
