December 1980, John Lennon and Yoko Ono returned back to their New York apartment in The Dakota. What seemed like an end to their night led to the end of one of the most important lives in history. The couple was met by Mark David Chapman who Lennon had autographed a copy of Double Fantasy for earlier that night. Chapman shot Lennon in the back four times in front of The Dakota. Lennon was immediately rushed to the nearby Roosevelt Hospital. The worlds hearts dropped when it was announced shortly after Lennon was pronounced dead on arrival at 11:07 pm. Chapman is currently serving a 25-Life sentence and has been denied parole many times. When asked why he did what he did he said, “I thought by killing him I would acquire his fame,” said Chapman in a 20/20 interview withBarbara Walters from 1992.
