Review: ‘Runaway’ A Film By Kanye West

Thursday night Kanye West stood very anxious and eager as he scanned the room. West wasn’t getting ready to perform or looking to interrupt anyone. The hip-hop star was ready to show off his latest project ‘Runaway,’ a film solely directed by himself. The idea was to relate to a storyboard with his music from his upcoming album. A story in which he himself would take part in alongside Selata Ebanks who stars as a Phoenix and love interest of West.

Probably the most impressive idea about the film is Kanye’s use of colors, “The idea of colors its kind of like if i was a 5 year old painting.” West creates different color schemes to go with a ton of non-forced imagery. Brilliant shots of nature, explosions and fireworks all create what words could not. The storyboard which West had help from Hype Williams, created a parallel with visuals. The music from West’s upcoming album My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, was featured throughout the film including the track “All of The Lights,” which blasted as we received a small visual tribute to MJ.

In turn you have to give Ye’ a ton of credit for thinking out of the box. The genre of hip-hop does not take well to doing things against the grain. This was Kanye’s submission to all that have questioned his integrity and actions in the past year. Wether your a fan or not of the man tune in tonight Saturday October 23rd, at 8 pm and see ‘Runaway’ for yourself and watch it open minded the way we all did Thursday night. Thank you to Def Jam and The Source Magazine for letting me be in attendance.
